So here is my quote for the day:
“Regardless of the popular literary trends of the times, write the thing which lies close to your heart.”
-Bess Streeter Aldrich
Who was Bess Streeter Aldrich? Bess was a writer who was explosively popular in her time for writing books about frontierswomen. She wrote a lot about Nebraska. That’s right. Nebraska. She knew Nebraska and she had a passion for it. But more than that, she had a knack for pulling heart strings. Now, I realize that not everyone’s a fan, which is obvious from the reviews you can find online. Some call her “old fashioned” or “moralistic”. But love her style or hate it, the woman could make you feel things — things she felt strongly in herself. I just finished reading one of her most popular books, A Lantern in Her Hand, and as I put it down, I told myself, “Never again. I will never read that book again.” Why? Because she made me cry! And I hate crying! But would I recommend the book to my friends? Yes. Yes I would.
